There are probably odder ways to spend a wet Saturday night …

… but I can’t think of any at the moment. Wandering through soggy woodland at Glenbranter with about 50 other people, and watching a rather truncated but very atmospheric production of “Macbeth”, performed by the Walking Theatre Company. Ooooh, it was spooky - so much so that one bloke fainted! And there was copious cheese and wine afterwards, so all in all, quite a good way to spend a wet Saturday night, really.

Culture. You can’t beat it.

PS: And until you’ve seen Lady Macbeth in lilac wellies, you haven’t lived!

Scottish Vampires Different From English Vampires!

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:51 pm by Sophie

Shocked, I was. I had popped into Glasgow on Saturday to do a little shopping, remind myself what a city looked like and also to give blood.

Hmph.

Turns out that, having crossed the border, I am now considered to be a new donor (new? moi? with a left arm like a sodding pin cushion?) and all the blood I gave away in England counts for nuffin’, nada and zilch.

Pah.

Still, you get to snarfle down Tunnock’s Teacakes afterwards, so all is quite definitely forgiven …

In other news - BGD still obsessed by pasta (even in preference to lamb’s liver - bloody weird moggy).

And on Saturday, as we were ambling down Sauchiehall Street, there was an “Oxjam” event, featuring three peach-fuzzed lads whose guitars were plainly older than they were.

“Bloody hell,” I muttered darkly in the traditional manner of the over-40-something. “Do their mothers know they’re out?”

“More to the point,” said R, “do their midwives know they’re out?”

I was still giggling twenty minutes later.

Is It Cos He Is Ginger Part II

Spaghetti.

Not spaghetti sauce.

Actual cooked spaghetti. It’s like catnip to him!

He is plainly a moggy of Italian origin, like many Scots, and tomorrow I’m trying him with a nice Chianti and a tub of oregano.

Mind you, Garfield was ginger and loved pizza …

Is It Cos He Is Ginger?

So far today, the Benign Ginger Dictator has (a) tried to eat a tomato (b) developed an unhealthy obsession with a bunch of spring onions.

On Saturday, I made a fish pie and he showed not the slightest bit of interest.

Now, do we have the world’s first vegetarian feline, or just the maddest cat in Catland?

Oooh, I have missed having a cat around the place. I think.

So far, our foster kitten has learned how to open and close the vertical blinds in my office (it’s such a good game he could play it all day); unplugged the phone (a remarkable trick for a creature lacking in opposable thumbs); and purposefully wandered off with a heavy tape measure in his teeth, only to return a few minutes later and put it back where he found it. I think he was measuring his enormous tail for inclusion in the Guinness Book of Records, but who knows, with cats?

More news from the Benign Ginger Dictator soon …

How time flies

And I still haven’t got round to putting any photos on Flickr! Have been somewhat busy (a) having another fabulous seafood experience at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, where I was treated to dinner on Friday (plus a gobsmacking jaw-dropping night sky on the way back to Dunoon - hurrah for the lack of light pollution here!); (b) hearing the patter of tiny paws, as the lady who runs the local cat sanctuary took me at my word when I offered to help, and we are now fostering a four-month-old ginger-and-white male moggy, who has the most ridiculously large and fluffy tail - I think he’s breaking it in for a bigger cat - and (c) as the weather yesterday was glorious, we made the most of it and went tree-spotting at Benmore Botanic Garden. And I forgot my camera. D’oh. I keep hoping that all the fresh air and healthy(ish) living up here will improve my brain power, but no signs as yet!
