Odd but true
Around and about my new abode there are a number of streets (Edward, William, Mary, Victoria), presumably named after British (cough - English!) monarchs.
And yet just across from here is Cromwell Street …

… apparently there is a Dutch word which translates into English as “shame hair”. Three guesses?!
Last night, I dreamt that the letter “t” had gone missing, and I was having severe trouble spelling “Terpsichore”.
It was somewhat of a relief to wake up and realise that “t” (and, indeed, tea) still existed.
As you were.
It’s the Cowal Highland Gathering this weekend, so not only can one see teenagers wearing kilts with a complete lack of self-consciousness, but there’s also a little funfair down on the promenade. They have a waltzer. I love waltzers!
“Wannagoonawaltzerwannagoonawaltzer …” (repeat ad infinitum).
Hmmm.
Obviously this is a Big Boys’ Waltzer for Tough Scottish Types. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but my teeth are still rattling and someone’s replaced my neck muscles with concrete … ouchouchouch!
Yesterday, we were blessed with unusually glorious weather, so once work was done R. and I walked down to the shore (having stopped off for two fish suppers and a black pudding supper), where we met up with R’s brother, who had anchored off the coast. We sat in perfect evening sunshine, munching on proper chips and drinking cold beer, and even got a free shower from a massive Newfie (wet dogs are always the friendliest). Then a lovely (and amazingly midge-free) walk up to Morag’s Fairy Glen … Bliss! Ticket availability notwithstanding, a trip on the Waverley is planned for this Saturday - photos will be taken in large amounts
And yet, on my way to get a Grauniad (the only one in the shop!) this morning, Complete Strangers Smiled At Me And Said Good Morning! I think I’m going to like living in Dunoon …
